Does it feel like you have tried every single thing on earth to gain weight? Does it make you feel like you have to buy expensive supplements or steroids? I was once like that when I couldn't gain weight even when I was eating like a monster. I also thought I was doing the right exercises at the gym because I was listening to the big guys. The next time you ask, "How am I still skinny?", read the following 5 tips:
.) Stop listening to the big guys. Most of these people are genetically gifted or they might on steroids. What works for them will most likely not work for you. You have to understand your body type. In your our case, we have an ectomorphic body. An ectomorph is someone who is very slim with long limbs, and our metabolism is incredibly fast. You need to listen to people who were once in your shoes.
.) Stop working out so much. Most skinny guys believe that the more they workout, then more muscles they would build. This is far from the truth. If you are a real hardgainer who has a very hard time putting on mass, then you need to stop working out so much. Your muscles have a very hard time recovering because you are not genetically gifted. You need to give your muscles plenty of time to recover so they can grow. Do not workout more than 3 days a week.
.) Stop wasting time on useless bicep curls. You always see a bunch of guys working on biceps. Biceps are very small muscle group. When you work on small muscles, you get small results. You see all those skinny guys at the gym working on biceps? They will never get bigger. You need to focus on compound exercises that target multiple muscle groups, such as, deadlift, squat, and bench press. You will work a lot more muscles in less time when you do compound exercises so you can get out of the gym quicker. When you get out of the gym quicker, you can recover faster by eating a healthy post-workout meal followed by rest.
.) You need to eat a lot more than you think. I used to think I was eating like a monster, but I was wrong. Slowly increase your calorie intake by about 300-500 calories every 2 weeks. If you do not gain any weight after 2 weeks, then continue to increase your calories again. Try to eat about every 2-3 hours to keep feeding your muscles. Never starve yourself because when you starve, your body will go to your muscles for energy.
.) You need to get more sleep. If you are sleeping 3-4 hours per night, then you pretty much answered your question, "How am I still skinny?" When you don't get enough sleep, your muscles will not grow. When you get a lot of sleep, that helps your muscles recover a lot faster to grow.
