Hosta Band of Gold

Hosta Band of Gold is a large perennial plant. This shade loving Hosta grows to 21 inches high and forms a 45 inch clump. It is a very attractive shade plant that needs to be in a reasonably large garden.

The leaves are dark green and have wide yellow edges. The color shades contrast strongly and draw the eye to this plant which will brighten up any shady corner. Although Band of Gold is not technically sun resistant if it does get a bit of dappled or indirect sunlight the edge color can vary between yellow, cream, and white. Finding just the right amount of sun for this plant to show its best colors is a task in itself. It is enjoyable for those who like tinkering with the garden but not so great for those gardeners who just want to plant and enjoy.

The leaves of Hosta Band of Gold are somewhat wrinkled and are almost round. They are 10 inches long by 8 inches wide.

Band of Gold has white flowers which bloom from June to July. The flower stalks grow to 24 inches high. This plant needs to be propagated via division as the seeds are sterile.

This variety of Hosta is not slug resistant and steps need to be taken to protect this plant from these pests if they are in the garden.

Hosta Band of Gold is a great shade plant. It is easy to grow and undemanding once it gets settled into its permanent garden home.
