Horse show ribbons are a very exciting part of the end rewards or goals for many horse show exhibitors. This is most true for the younger exhibitors who often dream of working towards that blue ribbon.
As you get older and continue to show, the thrill of bringing home the ribbon can fade, especially once you have a stockpile of ribbon after ribbon in multiple boxes in your basement. Depending on where you go, the type of ribbon may vary slightly.
There are also different colors for each placing depending on the country you are showing in. Below we will break down what each placing and color mean in the U.S. and in other countries.
Colors & Placings
In the United States ribbons are typically awarded to 10th place. At most open shows they award ribbons to 6th place. Below we break down which color ribbon you can expect to see for each placing in the U.S. and a couple of other countries:
United States:
First: Blue
Second: Red
Third: Yellow
Fourth: White
Fifth: Pink
Sixth: Green
Seventh: Purple
Eighth: Brown
Ninth: Gray
Tenth: Pale Blue
Canada:
First: Red
Second: Blue
Third: White
Fourth: Yellow
Fifth: Green
Sixth: Pink
Seventh: Brown
Eighth: Maroon
Ninth: Gray

Britain:

What To Do With Those Ribbons
Do you have a ton of ribbons stacked or packed in boxes around your house? If so you are probably wondering what to do with them all and you may not have the heart to simply get rid of those hard earned awards.
One idea is to use those most important and memorable horse show ribbons in a display. For example, you can set up some shelving to show them off or set them in some sort of shadow box or framed display for your wall.
