Identity theft is on the rise, and unfortunately, one of the major ways people can identify you is through your IP address. There are certainly ways as to how to hide IP address information, and if you do this, you'll be much safer when you're online.

Answer these questions: How much time do you spend online? And do you share any personal information online? If you spend a lot of time surfing online, you may very innocently put yourself in danger of sharing your information with anyone who wants it, not just those you want to see it. No matter what type of personal information you have, someone can use it to your disadvantage, and to his or her advantage. That includes your IP address, by the way, which is a way of identifying your personal computer, to anyone who knows how to find this information and use it to find out more about you.

So it falls to you to protect yourself, such that it comes down to hiding your IP so that you're much safer. You can find expertise out there as to how to hide IP address so that you are protected; once you do this, your online experiences will be much more enjoyable because you'll know you're not being "spied upon" or identified by people you have no idea are following your every activity.

Unfortunately, it's true that today's identity thieves are very sophisticated and spend lots of time online specifically to find out information about people's IP addresses and subsequent information related to that. And don't be mistaken; these people can find out everything about you, from your name and address, your age, how much you make, just about anything. No innocent little number, your IP address is really your own personal "Internet DNA," if you will, allowing people to identify you and only you just from that.

Once people have this "Internet protocol address," your IP, the jig is pretty much up. From then on, you can be identified wherever you go online. That's why you need to find out how to hide IP addresses so that you can surf anonymously and have your privacy protected.

How can you protect your IP address?

Proxy servers

A proxy server (or an anonymizing proxy) can help you maintain your privacy online, but most of them have ads to wade through before you can get to the proxy server itself. So they can be pretty slow to use. One way to get around this is to use proxies that charge fees; these are usually of better quality and provide much better service without downtime or the limited bandwidth problems so often suffered with free proxies.

Running a firewall program

Running a firewall program on your computer can also help protect your IP address to make sure those you don't want to see it do not see it. Again, both free and paid firewall programs exist, and you can search the Internet to find the proper solutions for you.

Software programs that let you hide your address

There are also software programs that let you hide your IP address, some of which are free and some of which require some cash from you. They'll protect your computer and make sure your information, including your IP address, are hidden from prying eyes so that it doesn't go out to the wrong people.

Are there "best ways" on how to hide IP address details?

Firewalls are great in helping to protect your IP address, and can certainly be a good first line of defense. However, having a software program running on your computer that helps you hide your IP address as a second line of defense will help make sure there are no breaks in protection, so that your data is always hidden and only those people you want to have your personal information with have it.
