With more than 10% of the population unemployed today, we need to consider alternative methods of finding gainful employment. Since the latter part of the 20th century, no one today has a guaranteed job with a corporation. You need to look for gainful employment with a small business online, or you have to start your own business. There are many options open to you in having an income if you are willing to do the work, or learn to work from home.

Today you need to consider such things as affiliate marketing, that means you help someone else sell their products online and earn a commission. Another option is multilevel marketing. This type of business gained a negative reputation because of Amway marketed itself, but it can be a way to build a business working from home selling to people who want your product. Another option is finding out what it is that you really love to do and figure out a way to turn it into a business and a career.

Whenever I asked people the question " If you could do what you really love to do as a career and earn an income doing it, what would it be? Everyone I talked to had an answer, but they had no idea how to get started. First, you'll have to decide what it is you want to do. Then you need to write a business plan( this is like writing a list of goals that you need to do to make it successful). Then you need to start writing articles or blogs so you can become known as the expert in your field. This is also a way of creating product for yourself to market. There are places where you can build a website for virtually little money, then start selling your product. Once you start building up your income, your best bet is to have a professional design you a good website because this is your marketing tool. Even though you may be a beginner, you want your customers to believe that you have been in business for many years.

There are many social sites on the Internet where you can connect with people to build strong relationships who may eventually become your customers and through word of mouth and referral help you increase your sales. First, to entice strangers to become a part of your network you need to obtain articles or a ebooks you can offer as a give a way to build your optin lists with a squeeze or capture page. You can market your link using e-mail. It is not spamming as long as someone gives you the opportunity to send them information because they have requested it. You need to also be aware that you should not send them e-mails no more than once or twice a month, because if you send it daily and three and four times a day then eventually they will consider your e-mails spam and they will no longer read them.

There are many experts now, simply because they embraced the technology in it's infancy that can teach you what you need to know to build a successful career for yourself. If you do not know what to do then possibly you should get career coaching from someone who has already been successful in their field to mentor you and teach you what you need to do so you too can become an expert.

I have been dicussing ways your business online, but you also have to consider off-line marketing as well. That means, think about attending leads clubs or Powercore meetings where you can pass out your business card and tell people what it is you are selling and who your perfect client is so they can refer people to you who need your product or service.. This is also a form of marketing by building strong relationships so you can build a client base from referrals. You want to build a relationship with someone who has customers who need your service. An example is someone who has a pet store and wants to build a relationship with companies who sell accessaries such as food for animals and pets.

Here are some questions that I want you to consider::

Who do I know that is successful who can teach me what it takes to build a successful business?
Am I a decision-maker? If not, how can I learn to become a decision-maker?
Do I have good communication skills or am I willing to learn to have good communication skills?
Do I know how to build relationships to expand my business or am I willing to learn how to have good relationships?
Am I a good listener or am I willing to learn how to listen to people when they talk to me?
Finally, do I have what it takes to own my own business?

That last one is a biggie because many people are not decision-makers or good leaders and are afraid to even try. Not everyone is meant to own their own business, but if you are and you can embrace technolgy than you can build a thriving company.

Remember this, jobs that existed 10 years ago don't exist today, jobs that exist today didn't exist 10 years ago,and there are jobs in the future that haven't been invented yet. It is usually in a down economy that many people are like willing to take a chance on having their own business. When the economy is good and there are an abundance of jobs many people take the safe route and work for someone else, even though they are unhappy in their choice. It is your choice to decide to put yourself on the line to do what you really want to do, or you can go the safe route and work for someone else having a gauranteed income.
