Hey Coach, Ever Wonder What Your Star Players Really Think of You?

Expert Author Lance Winslow

Indeed, these days it seems everyone claims to be a coach of some type; a life coach, spiritual coach, sports coach, small business coach, and you know, our society has coaches coming out of our ears, and it's just too bad we can't export these folks to China to level that insane trade deficit. Now then, I didn't mean to offend you, if you are a coach, but I have something to say, and it's about time all you coaches out there listened to your customers, clients, or coachees!

You see, as a former star athlete, I used to hear a lot of talk about various coaches and it wasn't all pleasant. And if you are a coach, regardless of what type, you need to know that although you get the preferential treatment from those who pay you for your services, not all of them would give you a stellar rating or evaluation, in fact many would end up hurting your feelings and I wouldn't want that. So, let me be the one to break the news to you, because I know how much truth can hurt.

The other day, I was watching a coach attempt to motivate an already highly-motivated entrepreneur, and the entrepreneur made a very interesting and comical statement, a self-trashing comment, in jest. The coach went over board to assure the individual that it wasn't true. Of course, the entrepreneur squinted at them in disbelief and almost disrespect which the coach thought meant he didn't believe the re-assurances.

The reality is the entrepreneur couldn't believe the coach took him seriously, it was a friggen joke! At that point the entrepreneur had lost all respect for the coach, and the psychological panzy pandering routine. Now then, back in the day, I had little respect for my athletic coaches for I far surpassed their skills, abilities, knowledge of the sport, at any time in their life or career, even when they were younger. I'd run better and faster times, won more races, worked out harder, and knew more than they knew.

And yet, they'd smile every time someone complimented them for their coaching job, which irked me, because I was the one doing those grueling workouts, maintaining the strict diet, and stood for excellence in every regard, while they ate crap, looked like hell, got fat, and didn't take care of themselves. Indeed, they were a walking contradiction, were they a good coach? Not for me, but for lesser athletes; probably.

So, coaches don't get too cocky out there, you don't impress me much. Go do something great, and then give me a call, otherwise stay on the porch and out of the way, you might get hurt. Stop acting and start leading by example is what I am trying to say, something your customers should have blind-sided you with long ago, but they were too weak to say it. Why?

Because of your coaching, you see, you don't even have an honest relationship there do you? You don't even know what they really think. Well, now you know, because at least one person in the world had the balls to tell you and dump all that politically correct nonsense. You need a reality check, I just gave it to you, so thank me and get back to work!
