A weed is any plant that you don't want in that particular spot. A rose bush can be a weed if it is where you want to put your new gazebo or arbor. Most people won't call the rose bush a weed and they will generally dig it out and plant it in another location or pass it along to a friend. Many herbs often are classified as weeds because people don't understand how useful they are or can be. Too often herbs are not dug up and replanted they are simply just killed off.

Herbs are easy to grow. All you need to do is give them sufficient water and light and they pretty much take care of themselves. Insects tend to leave herbs alone so you don't have to worry about your herb plants being infested. Planting a few herbs in your main garden can help with natural pest control as well.

Herbs have many uses. They can be eaten fresh or dried for later culinary use. Some herbs have medicinal properties and are sought after by those seeking natural cures. Herbs also can be used in arts and crafts projects, such as potpourri.

Some herbs have beautiful flowers and can be used as decorative landscape plants. Other herbs can be used as ground cover. Don't always assume herbs need to be relegated to the backyard garden. Spice up your landscaping and do something different. Not everyone has sufficient yard space for an actual garden. Herbs in your landscaping serve a double duty and can help cut your food cost as well as aid in with pest control. Edible landscaping is a great way to have a garden without really having a garden. Working herbs into the landscape is also a way of cutting your landscaping costs because they will serve as "double duty" plants.
