Hello Kitty - From the Beginning

Everyone has favorite animation character during childhood. We can see many kinds animation character in the movies and television. The leaders of animation movie industry are Disney and Warner Brothers. Disney, as a large movie industry, has Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Mickey Mouse, Pluto, and many other famous classic and modern animation characters in their movies, while Warner Brothers has some heroic characters from Marvel Comics such as Superman, Spiderman, Captain America, Iron Man. Despite those two big leaders of this industry, there is Sanrio, which has released animated series for children since 1977.

The animation character is Hello Kitty. The earliest animated series of Hello Kitty were titled Hello Kitty's Furry Tale Theater. It was broadcast during 1986. Dic entertainment helped Sanrio to produce and broadcast the series at the first time on the Family Channel for the audiences in the United States. In Spain, Hello Kitty series were dubbed using Spanish and broadcast every Saturday morning on Univision. The cute Hello Kitty's face and good moral value from the story becomes the reason why girls choose Hello Kitty and her pals as their favorite animation character. Hello Kitty and her pals have become legend since that time; therefore today we still can see many girls and children love Hello Kitty.

In Japan, Hello Kitty games reached success in 1992. The games became very popular, and played by children and teenagers in their Nintendo NES. Those good appreciations make Hello Kitty games exist until today. During the history of games console, from Nintendo NES to PlayStation 2 or X-Box, we can find many different versions of Hello Kitty games. People still love this animation character until now.

Because of the success of the series and games, Sanrio as the owner of the Hello Kitty, can use the popularity to sell many products using this animation characters. They produce many Hello Kitty Products and sell them on the market. The target markets are children, students, and teenagers. Even today, we can easily find many Hello Kitty pictures printed on many t-shirts or pants available in stores. Stationery, books, drawing books, comics, bags, and many other things which are used by students, girls, and teenagers are the object of Hello Kitty Products. They buy the products because they love Hello Kitty and everything which has Hello Kitty on it. It shows that Hello Kitty still has big impact to the children until today.

However, many international brands can not escape from the reality of piracy and copyright violations. In many third and develop countries, local garment companies take benefits from the popularity of Hello Kitty. They design and print Hello Kitties pictures on their products such as shoes, shirt, rulers, pants, gloves, and their other products in order to make their products become more profitable. In such case, the local garment companies should have asked for permission and paid the royalty to the owner of Hello Kitty character, Sanrio. But in fact, to keep the price of their products cheaper, they choose to neglect the duty and the copyright rules.
