Healthy Weight Loss Eating Tips

Expert Author Joseph Troyer

It is hard to really pay attention to what you're eating when you are on the run and don't take the time to sit and enjoy a meal. And, when you go out, everything is so much bigger than it used to be, a side salad almost looks like an entree salad in some places. A few eating tips can help you achieve a healthy weight loss with just a few simple changes.

If you really want to be able to have more control over what you eat, then you need to start planning things in advance. At the end of the week start planning your meals for the following week. That way you'll have a grocery list of what you need and no last minute meals thrown together with whatever is on hand, and these meals usually end up equaling something unhealthy and fattening.

Drink plenty of water. You may be tired of hearing that, but your body does need to be hydrated more than you may realize. But also, many times thirst is confused for hunger. The next time you have hunger pangs, try drinking some water first, because it may just be your body craving water and not food.

However, don't starve yourself till you're at the point of eating the next thing that catches your eye. If the water doesn't do the trick then you are hungry and need to eat before you start binging on junk. Always have fruit or vegetables on hand for quick snacks between meals.

Portion size is important but it can be a hassle for many to get out the scales or try to figure out the correct portion size for this and that. The easiest solution is to use smaller plates, and then you are forced to use a smaller portion size that really won't look small at all. Pack the large dinner plates away or push them in the back of the cupboard so you automatically choose the smaller size first.

How many times have you been watching television while you ate and when you were done, didn't even remember tasting the food? That is what happens when you're distracted during mealtime, you don't pay attention, and in the long run you end up overeating. It is important to eat slowly, chew your food and actually enjoy what you are eating.

It is a good idea to form the habit of not cleaning your plate. Stop eating before you're full but feel you've had enough food. It normally takes the brain about twenty minutes to register that you are eating and that the food is on the way, so if after that time you are still hungry, go ahead and eat some more.

You can eat less and still feel full by just getting in the habit of paying attention to what is on the plate and how much you have put in your mouth. The simple weight loss tips mentioned here are some good ways to start. Always remember to be good to yourself though, don't cut off all the bad foods from your diet, if you crave a sweet have a sample size portion. If you satisfy that one little craving now, it will save you from a binge and bigger waistline later, meaning less fat loss needed.
