Healthy Snacks Your Kids Will Love

Expert Author Zachary Sestak

Keeping their kids healthy is every parent's number 1 goal. One of the big challenges in that is making sure that they eat right. We all wish that we could get our kids to eat the healthiest foods, but the reality of that is that all too often the healthy foods just don't taste as good as the junk food that kids also have access to all around them. However, it doesn't always have to be that way. I find that if I make sure that my kids have access to healthy snacks that also taste good, they are less likely to stray and get that bag of potato chips or candy bar.

Here are a few great ideas for healthy snacks that my kids love to eat, and I know are nutritious as well.
Apples n' Cheese

• Ingredients: ½ Apple (sliced), 1 Whole Grain English Muffin, Low-Fat Cheddar Cheese (Sliced or Grated)
• Instructions: First, cut the English muffin and place it in the toaster. While it is toasting, slice the apple extra thin (about 6 slices for ½ apple should do it). When the muffin is done toasting, place the apple slices on top of it. Next add the sliced or grated cheese on top of the apples. I prefer my cheese melted on top of these: 15 - 20 seconds in the microwave or about 45-60 seconds in a toaster oven should do it. You might not think that mixing apples and cheese would be very tasty, but it really is!

Banana Sandwich

• Ingredients: ½ Banana, Whole Grain or 12 Grain Bread, Peanut Butter
• Instructions: Banana slices are a great substitute for sugar-laden jams and jellies on a peanut butter sandwich. Simply prepare the bread (I like it toasted) and spread on the peanut butter. Then slice the banana evenly and place it on top of the peanut butter. It is delicious, and a ½ size sandwich makes a wonderfully tasty and quick snack.
