Health Reasons to Lose Weight

There are numerous reasons for someone to lose weight. They can come from various directions, but all of them lead to the same goal - to make that person feel better and more comfortable in their own skin. Most people who are overweight are dissatisfied with their weight, but often times there just is not enough reason for them to do the hard work that dropping those pounds requires. It is important to the overweight person to realize just what they would be gaining if they really did put in the effort to drop all those extra pounds.

Several of the most important reasons to drop weight come from the health area. Being overweight increases the strain on a person's body in numerous ways. First of all, being overweight increases blood pressure. High blood pressure can put unneeded strain on the cardiovascular system, and dropping weight is one excellent way to get it lowered. The strain on the heart and blood vessels need not be as intense, if the blood pressure can be lowered. Along with blood pressure, the heart and blood vessels work harder if the person is overweight - losing it makes the whole cardiovascular system healthier.

Diabetes is a life-changing disease. It comes from the body having to work too hard to trim down the carbohydrates it receives into simple sugars, and then use them. The cells in the pancreas get tired, and quit working. Being overweight makes this even worse, because it becomes even harder to keep the strain off your pancreas. It is a terrible disease, and can easily lower life expectancy by more than a decade, but it is easily preventable. The gallbladder as well benefits from lost weight - it works to break down fats, and if there's less excess fat, its job is easier, and the fear of gallstones will significantly decrease.

Fat also puts pressure on the lungs, making it harder to breathe. This increases the odds of sleep diseases such as sleep apnea. Losing weight not only will make breathing easier but clearing that up will help the person clear up their chances of getting that disease, as well.

Extra weight puts undue strain on the joints and back. Those who suffer from joint pain, back pain, or arthritis but find they are carrying extra weight will see their symptoms decrease significantly, thanks to the decreased strain. Lastly, being overweight greatly increases a person's chances to contract colon, breast, or other cancers. This is a stark reminder that a healthy body is important!
