If you wondering why in the world I would be writing an article on smiling and laughter in general, it is because I believe our global societies in which we live and are all apart- seems to have forgotten this God given gift. As Proverbs 17: 22 states, a cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. Laughing and smiling is good, a happy heart is a healthy heart I would like to add.
The Lord our God, who is the creator of all, and giver of all, created the gift of laughter and the gift of smiling for all mankind for our own emotional and health benefit. And it appears only recently, that modern medical science is now discussing the physiological health benefits that laughter and smiling can have on the human body from eliminating stress and increased blood flow to better emotional well being.
However if you look at your own life, your families, your neighbors and the world around you, all you see is conflict conflict, sadness and despair everywhere you look. And I'll readily admit that it is sometimes hard to smile and laugh when you or your spouse has lost a job, or a friend or family member has recently died, or you are losing your house to foreclosure. How to you laugh and smile then when the very world you are living in seems to be coming apart at the seams?
I'll admit, it is hard, but all we really have during times like these is our hope and faith in God above. 1 Thessalonians 5: 18 states that we are to give thanks to God in all things. All things means all circumstances. God's mercy and peace is real for those who seek His face and will comfort you when you feel you can laugh and smile no more. Pray and ask God to give you the spirit of laughter and joy that is missing from your life. It is your right to be able to laugh, to be able to smile, to be happy and joyous in life.
The world we all live in is way too short, and once you or a loved one is gone-you're gone. Relationships are all anyone of us really has that has impacting value. Things are just things, materialism which does not have value, people and relationships and family friends we hold dear are what should matter to us all.
If there is someone you have wronged or have been wronged by, seek this person out now in an act of forgiveness, allow the healing begin in restoring your broken relationships so you can smile and laugh again for all your future tomorrows.
