We all love our Xbox 360 systems. But what happens when your console was working fine and then suddenly your Xbox stops working? I know you don't want to buy a new one (you shouldn't have to). There must be another way?

There is. This article is about what to do if your Xbox stopped working.

Determine the Cause
The first thing you want to do if your Xbox stopped working is determine the reason that it quit on you. There are many reasons why Xbox systems break down so you need to do some simple troubleshooting to find out what was going on.

How to Troubleshoot Your Xbox
Luckily for us, the Xbox 360 has an easy way to troubleshoot the problem. These problems come in the form of red lights that replace the usually green lights on the power quadrant (on the front of the console).

If you are getting 4 red lights
This simply means your AV calbes are not being detected. This could either mean that your AV cables aren't hooked up well (or came unhooked) or that your AV cables have malfunctioned and need to be replaced. Turn the console off and re-hook all the cables.

If you are getting 1 red light
This can be numerous problems and stands for a System Error. This light code will often flash a specific code on the television as well. Generally what you can do to fix this is turn the console off and remove the hard drive. Turn it on and see if you are getting the same error. Now turn it off again and re-attach the hard drive and try the system again.

If you are getting the same error throughout your testing, then the Xbox 360 most likely has a bad component and will need to be repaired.

If you are getting 2 red lights or...
If your console is freezing and getting distorted graphics you are dealing with an overheating problem. This is a common problem for many Xbox 360's due to manufacturing flaws that prevent the system from cooling properly. The best thing to do is make sure that the console is not obstructed so that it can ventilate. You might also want to consider investing in a cooling unit to help circulate fresh cool air into your system.

If you are getting 3 red lights
This is the most common problem we see that causes Xbox's to stop working. This usually indicates that overheating has already damaged some of the internal parts of the Xbox 360 and can only be fixed by repairing your Xbox 360.

Xbox Repair
If your Xbox 360 system needs to be repaired you can send it to Microsoft for repair or you can fix it yourself.

Can you believe that Microsoft charges over $100 to Fix Xbox 360 systems?

What if I told you there's a 99% chance that you can Fix Your 360 yourself for a fraction of what Microsoft charges?
