You've come to this article because you are searching for an "answer." The specific answer you are looking for is different from that of other people, but at the core of our beings all of us are looking for the same thing: happiness.
We all do it, and sometimes the search is frenetic; sometimes the search causes suffering and misery. I compare it to a treadmill, because in the end it doesn't actually get us anywhere. We frantically run for happiness that's supposedly found in a lover; running for money and material possessions; running for status; running for knowledge; for our lost youth; for the latest technological knick-knack; for spiritual enlightenment.
This article is an invitation to give up; to stop running. The search ends right where it began - with you. The secret to a happiness which dwarfs anything all of these external things bring lies right inside you. There is a switch that you have access to - much like a light switch - that can light up your whole life and transform you at your very core. It has the power to attract into your life those previous things you were searching for. The irony is that once you have access to the switch, those things become relatively unimportant. It's so easy!! Just flick the switch, and watch your world gradually transform.
Happiness is a choice. No doubt if you are reading this article, you already know this. Your ego may then step in and say, "I don't know why I'm wasting my time reading these words." The reason you have chosen to read this article is because although you know the information, you haven't really got it! It hasn't reached into your core and permeated your whole being.
Something happened to me about six months ago which is slowly but surely transforming my life. It was completely unexpected, and resulted in a book which was written in a creative spell over a four month period. It seems I've zoned in on a happy place that some of the spiritual masters talk about. All the external things that I used to see as being "the answer" to life have crumbled away. It goes beyond all the superficial humanistic wants and needs and it's so remarkably simple. Why doesn't this get taught in our schools, by our parents?
The secret to happiness is this: always shift towards positive thinking and emotions. Always move towards positivity. The more you do this, the easier it becomes. Stop using the outside world as an excuse not to claim for yourself a happy inner world. The rain is not the cause of your doom and gloom. Your problems won't all be solved by your new partner. Your life won't come together just because you win the lottery. The outside world is not the answer - you are. Focus on creating an inner happy heavenly world for yourself, and those things will become relatively unimportant. The odd thing is that when you make this shift, the outer things that you used to struggle so hard for come of their own accord.
You have great power inside. This is your chance to decide to make your inner world the most amazing thing possible. Forget about all the outside stuff; imagine if you could create an amazing heavenly world inside. Really go in there and penetrate through the layers of doubt and worry; get into a place that is free of all negativity about yourself, the people around you, and life. Why don't you just do this? This is exactly what I did - I made a decision. I came to see that we have no control on the outer world, our life situations, or the events and circumstances we encounter. But I did have a choice about my inner world. So my focus shifted towards creating, to the best of my ability, a happy and joyful inner world.
