Learning to play guitar is a challenge for most people. What can make it even harder however are poor quality guitar lessons for beginners. This is largely due to the fact that many guitar websites do not fully understand how beginners on guitar really learn and how best to pace the lessons effectively. This results in poor improvement rates among students and a sense of foreboding frustration. Sound familiar?

I personally believe that giving guitar lessons to beginners is a specialist subject. You need to have a talent for it and be able to understand what it's really like for a novice on guitar. To be able to put yourself in their shoes and understand the process of how they'll learn most effectively.

This means you have to be smart about the way you deliver your lessons and to consistently search for ways and methods to make what you teach easier to understand, easier to build upon and above all else, realistic for the student to achieve.

As experienced guitar players we all too often forget just how hard it was in the beginning to learn guitar, a good way to remind yourself is to try a few minutes of playing guitar the other way round from what you're used to... you'll quickly see how a lack of co-ordination and control makes it so much harder to do.

As a tutor providing guitar lessons for beginners it's your responsibility to use your intelligence to present playing guitar in a way which is logical and achievable to any student who walks through the door regardless of their age or level of musical experience.

If you look at other areas of instruction such as language or ear training, you'll find many examples of clever teachers who have found new systems to make the same information much easier to learn simply through better presentation and a greater understanding of how the mind learns.

The field of guitar lessons for beginners is no different from those examples and your students will certainly thank you for making life just that little bit simpler!
