Being broken-hearted is a very painful process, and sometimes too unbearable to some people. Just think of the time, effort and emotions invested into a relationship gone to waste. Concerned friends and family members immediately offer advices on how to mend a broken relationship. But before taking into considerations their opinions and suggestions, it is also wise to ponder if such relationship is worth saving. At times, a person who is madly in love becomes blind to everything, including the hurt that it brings.
Take a break
The first advice one may hear is to give it some time. This way, one can contemplate on the source of break-up. It is hopeless to rush into conclusions without first knowing the problems. Although confronting your former lover immediately is an impulsive response, this can do more harm than good. At this point, you (or both of you) are still outraged with each other. Instead of resolving the issue, heated debates could be produced which can further worsen the situation. Besides, demanding from your ex might turn you off.
Most people who had been in a broken relationship have learned that the initial step is to concentrate first on yourself. This might sound self-serving but it's not! Take time to ponder what went wrong. Deliberate the pros and cons of your relationship. See if your happiness with your lover outweighs all the hardship and sufferings that comes with it. In this way, you can have a picture whether what you had is worth letting go or worth saving. In the meantime, relax and pamper yourself if you have to. Being with friends and doing activities you enjoy most will make it easier for you to consider your decision.
Open up
After sometime and you have calmed down, the next step is to open up your communication. A phone call, a text message or even an e-mail is a good start to assess your ex's frame of mind. If you can sense that he/she too has been calmed down, then opt to meet preferably in unbiased place. Remember to be civil with each other when you meet. Be honest with your feelings, value each others views and avoid insensitive words. Pay attention to your ex's compliments and criticism. And most of all, be prepared for any unforseen circumstances.
Fixing a broken relationship is not that easy. There may be hundred articles on saving destroyed romances but in the end, it's up to you to apply what were recommended. The main recipe is to understand one's self in handling such situation and to have an open communication between the couple.
