This is Helen's first collection of poetry. It was published in 2007. It is a fine collection of poetry with quotations from the Bible within. She writes with her heart and soul. There are poems that are true life experiences that she shares and you feel her joys and sorrows. She also has some short stories of her life that shows she can write as a novelist also.
"A Beloved Dream" was a beautiful poem she wrote in memory of her daughter, Lori and touched my heart. As I read it I felt all her grief and also her faith in losing her at the young age of 35. This poem brought tears gushing from my eyes down my face.
"A Miracle" written in story form is a story of herself as a child that shows that God had plans for her to live a long life as her dog saved her from an icy pond while ice skating at the age of 10. This is well written and shows that God is always with us.
"Early Morning Meanderings" is another beautiful poem that is written for a child she lost at the young age of 46. Her son was another child that will greet her at the gates of paradise when she does die. This also brought wells of tears from within my eyes. Yet this woman's faith is shown within each verse.
"God's Love A-Z Christian Poem" is a fantastic Acrostic poem that shows her love, faith and praise of God. This poem was well written with jewels of faith woven into each line. It takes a lot of talent to go through the alphabet with all Christian themes but she did this with expertise.
"You Have Only to Ask" is a poem that speaks of God's forgiveness and how we need to ask to free ourselves for our eternal journey that he offers in Heaven. Her words are powerful and direct in the message they bring.
"Prayer Answered" is a short story of when she was a child and she was in a fire. The fire was in her bedroom and the smoke was making it hard to breathe. She knew she had to scream loudly for her sister that was nearest to hear her. She silently prayed between screams and her sister heard her and carried her out to safety. Again this woman was saved.
It has become apparent to me that this woman was saved two times as a child because she had something to offer us as a poet when she grew up. Her poetry is expressed well with good use of imagery and emotion. Although she has lost two of her children she continues to keep her faith and praise of God. The trials in her life have made her a stronger woman and this is felt within her words that she writes.
I highly recommend this book as a poetry book that displays great faith and hope in the presence of adversity.
