This year marked the 22nd year of the Longest Yard Sale that takes place along Highway 127 traveling through five states in America.  It starts in Alabama and travels north to the state of Ohio and is usually held for 4 days in early August, this year it is from August 6-9.  If you are an avid yard sale shopper you may find anything and everything from cheap designer clothes, antique furniture, clothing coupons, collectibles and cheap toys to name just a few.

Some serious yard sale fans have attended this huge event for all 22 years that it has existed. The sale has gotten longer each year with more places joining in.  The seasoned shoppers have some great tips on how to make the most of your travel experience while hitting the longest yard sale.  So prepared to rise early and have fun finding some great treasures.

If you are not familiar with the area, you should make a plan before heading out and have a map on hand to find out where you want to go if you do not plan on covering the entire 654 miles of the yard sale.  To get all of the information you may need go to the official website of 127sale.com where you can find everything you may need about it.  One of the biggest tips is to pack lightly and to bring a big car.  Even if you plan on only buying a couple of smaller items, you may find yourself having to get a great deal on a larger piece of furniture so make room in your vehicle for that situation.  Do not plan on shipping anything since there are not many shipping places in the many rural areas along the route.

Other things to remember when attending the world's longest yard sale is that it is mostly in the south where it is very hot and humid in August.  To prepare for that pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and bug spray to ward off the elements and the bugs.  Also make sure to have a cooler and purchase snacks and drinks or water at a grocery store since there are many long stretches that are rural with no rest stops or even any restaurants available.  Some parts of the sale do have vendors that sell regional food and you should take advantage of trying the local fare while doing your shopping.  Some great things available are southern barbecue and corn bread.

Other tips to know when you attend the sale on route 127, is to bring a lot of cash as many sellers do not accept credit cards or checks.  Because it goes through many small rural towns, available ATM machines are not always easily found.  Another thing many people don't think about is rest room facilities.  Because there are long stretches with no facilities you may have to go to the bathroom in the great outdoors so bring along your own toilet paper just in case there are no facilities available.

Chuck R. Stewart and his wife often search the internet to find cheap designer clothes for their family. They told their friends to purchase cheap toys on the internet. He often collects clothing coupons to use for their purchases.
