Great Mildew Remover Techniques and Tips

Mildew often attaches itself on various types of surfaces. It appears thin, white or black. Mildew is the growth produced by mold. These molds are from plants that belong to the fungi group. These molds are typically present in the air; however, if they cause mildew, they need moisture as well as a certain temperature in order to grow. They can grow anywhere for as long as they can get food but they mostly thrive in the summer time.

For homes, they develop mostly on linen, cotton, rayon, wool and leather as well as paper, wood and silk. For synthetic fibers, there are some that can resist mildew.

These molds, which cause mildew, can actually flourish in warm, damp and poorly lighted areas. They also thrive when there is n air circulation like crawl spaces, cellars and clothing closets. They can also be found on rugs and draperies in most shower curtains, basement recreation rooms and even on damp clothing. They can also grow in new houses due to the moisture from building materials.

To prevent mildew, you need to keep things clean, especially dresser drawers, closets, basements and anywhere mildew can most likely grow. You need to keep these areas as clean as you can. If there is soil on dirty articles, this can supply food for mildew growth. Other breeding places include greasy films on kitchen walls, soiled clothing and more.

Another ways to prevent mildew is to get rid of dampness. To do this, you can use dehumidifiers and air conditioners as well as by heating the house time and time again. After doing the latter, you can open the windows and doors to let out the "moisture-laden" air. You can use an exhaust fan to force out the air.

A good mildew remover includes chemicals that can absorb moisture. Good examples are activated alumina, silica gel, molecular sieves and anhydrous calcium sulfate. However, you can't find these in hardware stores, drug stores and even department stores but you can check out scientific supply houses as well as suppliers of industrial chemicals.

Both mold and mildew can be eradicated effectively with the right chemicals or even with proper cleaning habits. Mildew and mold can be prevented if you keep your home free from dampness and dark, moisture-rich areas.
