Golfing in Utah during the fall can't be beat. The crowds have finally died down and the weather has cooled to a nice eighty degrees. Finally the courses have recovered from the previous long winter and the greens are beginning to roll true. It's usually around this time when it seems like my swing is finally getting into shape. The only drawback is that in the back of my mind I know that winter is just around the corner.
One thing that I do tend to notice is that the more my swing gets honed, the more my body begins to hurt. One advantage of a sore back is the fact that I am forced to slow my swing down and shorten my back swing. As a result, I tend to hit more fairways and greens in regulation and consequently, my score goes down. I wish I could get it through my head earlier in the season to swing easier. I guess that must come with age.
It's also usually around this time of the year when I try to get out of the golf cart and actually walk the course. One of the nicest things I have bought recently to help out the old back during the latter part of the year is a new golf push cart. The difference that this has made in how I am able to enjoy walking the course is immeasurable.
Anywhere along the Wasatch Front is a great place to play this time of the year. I generally save Southern Utah for the winter or early spring. Whether you enjoy the heat of summer or the cool of Fall, the main thing is to get out and enjoy yourself. See you on the course.
