My first time visit to what I will call golf paradise will never be forgotten. The drive down to S.C. from Ottawa took eighteen hours total, maybe longer considering that we stopped at restaurants all along the way to sample different foods. I found the antique stores excellent places to find unique gifts, but watch out for some of the prices that are on the merchandise, they can be a little high. I always try to get a better deal at these places because of the economy and the opportunity to deal directly with the owner. Also there are many historic sights to visit if you are so inclined to do some sightseeing. The variety of sights and stores was excellent everywhere we stopped to rest. We arrived at around eight o'clock in the evening and rented a couple of rooms at the Inn. The group had a late snack and we went to bed around eleven. Next morning we all had an excellent breakfast, got packed and was on the road by sunrise. We travelled for three hours or so and arrived at our hotel around noon. We checked in to our rooms then proceeded to the nearest restaurant for some seafood and cold drinks. We spent the rest of the day shopping at most of the golf stores on the main street, visited the local flea market and of course the ice cream shops.
We had an early tee off time, seven a.m. at Legends golf course. This facility has six courses on one property, each course different than the other, one is parkland style, trees and water. Another is links style with no trees and very large bunkers, with burns running across the fairways hidden from the unaware golfer teeing off. There are table top greens that are ten on the stimpmeter, with large chipping areas to recover from. The other four courses vary from extremely difficult to easy, depending on the skill of the golfer, you have six choices of different golf courses to play on. The wildlife in this area is remarkable, so many different species of birds. Canada geese, storks, owls, falcons, and some birds I have never seen before. Hundreds of birds everywhere and great views everywhere, a real beautiful place to play golf. One of the challenges of playing these courses is the size of the greens, the greens are huge, so you best hope that your putter is working well.
Some of us golfers went on and played another nine holes after the full eighteen we just played. I kept playing of course because I' m a golf nut, besides that is why I was there. We played a different course each day for the ten days we were there. The condition of the golf course was amazing, all the fairways cut every day, bunkers cleaned and raked, to first rate service at all of the other courses and restaurants as well. Plenty of golf stores to check out, and the amount of golf is enough for anyone, at any skill level. The real nice thing about these resort courses is that they are usually not too busy, sometimes I find there is only a dozen or so golfers on the course that you are playing on. This is when you really get to enjoy and play real good golf, focused in on the game and a great pace of play with no waiting at all. Remember that if you can maintain a level temper and be patient, you can have a good round and a great day. I'll have to return someday to that special place, my golfing soul loves being there. Of course there is the ocean to enjoy as well, when you just want to relax and enjoy the view.
