It seems that everywhere you go there is a devout Christian waiting to preach the word of God, his God, to you. Part of the Christian faith is to spread the word of God, their God to everyone they meet. They feel is their duty to their God to spread his words, and tell everyone all about the teachings of his only son Jesus Christ. Not long ago, someone came up to me with a little flyer for a fundraiser that was going on at their church, and I thanked them for the flyer, and wished them a nice day.
They asked what church I went to; I explained to them that I do not go to church, and that I am an ethical man, and I don't need to be reminded every Sunday to be ethical, because my level of integrity is beyond that. He told me that I didn't understand, that God loved me and that God sacrificed his only son for me. I told him that I did understand the relevance of these teachings, I had read the Bible, and I found literary work to be quite good actually. In fact, I felt it was as good as Shakespeare in many regards.
He told me that the Bible was not to be taken as literature, but literally. I told him I did not believe that was the case, and even if that's why it was made by the man who wrote it, that I didn't take it literally, and I didn't feel he should either. Apparently, this sent out a challenge to him, and he took it upon himself to help save my soul.
Indeed, I told him I wasn't interested in his religion, but I thought I would attend the fundraiser to help his church raise money, because I had read in the local paper that they are doing good things for the "youth at risk" of our community, those which have gotten into a little trouble, and were trying to make it back to a path back to society.
After that, he spent about 15 minutes lecturing me on the Bible while I sat outside and sipped on my white mocha Frappachino "with no whip" at Starbucks. And after he was done, I thanked him for helping me write one more article and giving me some good content for the day. If you see this man of God, thank him for me for helping the "youth at risk" in our community.
