Glow Sticking - Basic Tips

It requires a lot of practice and patience to master the art of glow sticking. This form of entertainment has grown in popularity over recent years and it seems to be evolving even more. Generally speaking, there are two ways to practice and perform this art form: the popular freehand technique and another technique called glow stringing.

As with any skill, you need to learn the basics first. In glow sticking, the basics include freehand tossing and tracing. Perhaps the most basic moves are the popular figure eight and the famous helicopter toss. Once you learn how to do these two moves, then you can move on to learning moves like threading, power moves, and complex tosses. It is important that while you learn the art, you should not rush or push yourself too hard in the beginning. Like all art forms, it depends on the learner's capabilities, and it's better to take it slowly so that you can perfect each move. Glow stringing involves using glow sticks that are attached to strings. Many of these moves are similar to yo-yo tricks or poi techniques. Some performers use light sticks with handles, to facilitate moves that involve throwing, tossing, or switching. In general, these performers use swinging motions to master the techniques that they practice.

The best way to start learning would be to view some videos about glow sticking. Tutorials would also help you understand the basics, and once you have mastered the basics, feel free to move on to more advanced techniques. It's very important that while you practice and perform glow stringing, you make sure to keep the strings shorter than your arms; this precaution will help you to avoid any injuries you could possibly get by accidentally hitting your own body. Once you're a more advanced performer, you can start teaching others and creating video tutorials. Perhaps you could even hold your own show and perform for a small group of people. At the end of the show, you could hold a small competition for the amateurs that watched you perform. Glow bracelets and necklaces could be awarded to the winners.
