Glass blocks make a great addition to any room or bathroom they are sleek yet still allow for privacy because of its milky color. Glass Block Installation is a project that anyone can do with the right tools.
There are several steps involved to installing your glass blocks the first being to decide where you want to install them and get all the measurements done so you know what to pick up at the home or hardware store.
Once all the tools and supplies have been gotten together you can place a 1 x 2 foot board where the frame is to be and nail it in place. The board will be covered up by the blocks once they are installed so this will be unseen, once the board is in place paint it with sealer which will block out moisture and keep the wood from rotting.
Take the panel anchor and make it look like an L, nail the anchor into the frame and now you don't have to add another anchor until the third of each row. This will allow you to move on the next set or row of blocks with their spacers once this has been done you can follow the instructions on the glass mortar mix and by using a tool especially set for mortar you can fill each groove with mortar.
After the mortar has been placed you are ready to set a placer into place then you can add you next block repeat these steps until the row is done now you want to make sure the row is level. A very important step to remember is if you get any mortar on the glass wipe it off as soon as you can with a rag or sponge to avoid it drying and messing up the blocks.
Once you have completed three rows of blocks you can add a line of mortar mixture and put a wire stabilizer on top to support the wall, then you can finish the block installation. Let all of this dry for approximately 24-36 hours and caulk around the edges to prevent moisture from getting in. If you have successfully completed all of these steps you can add a continuous bead of silicone around the outside so you can set the wall panel, nail this into place and add a trim and clean; you are now ready to enjoy your wall of glass blocks.
Glass Block installation is a very easy how to project that can be accomplished by anyone even the beginner.
