Getting a used car bargain is becoming more difficult. The UK car scrappage scheme has taken a lot of used vehicles off of the road. This seems to have helped keep used car prices inflated to a certain degree. The current financial climate has also had a profound effect because people have been downgrading their larger cars for smaller, cheaper to run vehicles.
All is not lost however! The one place people overlook is not the used car dealerships, but the dealerships that sell new cars. These companies often take trade in vehicles against their new car sales. But what happens to these cars? Most of them find their way to auction, but if you contact the companies, a bargain can often be there for the taking. If a trade in car is sold from the yard it solves the logistics problem of transporting the car to auction.
When I bought my last car, I contacted the local Ford dealership but they didn't have any available. They did however ring around their other regional dealerships for me and found one in Taunton. OK, it wasn't right on my doorstep but finding a bargain car an hours drive away from my home town (Barnstaple). Just because it was a Ford dealership though it didn't mean I had to buy their make of car. People trade in all makes of cars be it a Ford from Vauxhall or a Toyota from a Mazda retailer.
What's the catch though? There is always a catch is the natural response from a cynic. The catch is that all other used car dealers are trying to get there before you! The cars traded in often end up on a used car forecourt because the main dealers just want rid of them half the time. Local smaller sellers often try to cut deals by taking most of the cars and in return commanding a better buy price. So there you have it. Visit your local car dealership and ask about their current trade in bargains rather than buy the same vehicle from another seller with their profit added on top.
