The state of confusion and heartbreak you feel after a breakup is what causes you to make mistakes that you normally would not make. This is why you need to take extra care at this time and not make mistakes that can ruin any chance of getting your ex back. In fact at this emotional time your actions are apt to be the exact opposite of what your common sense would tell you to do. What you need to realize is a breakup does not necessarily mean the end of your relationship, unless you say and do some things that will end the relationship forever.

Your ex told you they needed some space to do some thinking. So respect their wish and give them the space they need. This means no contact whatsoever. No harassing phone calls, emails or text messages. Most of all do not confront them face to face. These kind of actions will only make you look weak and desperate. Put yourself in the shoes of your ex. If it was you that said you needed space you would not want your ex to be crying and yelling at you all the time. You would want the space you asked for and would expect your ex to be mature enough to give you what you asked for.

This could be a good time for you to get your emotions under control. Do not sit at home feeling sorry for yourself. This is no time for you to be alone. While your ex needs space you need just the opposite. You need companionship and support in order to keep your mind off the subject of getting your ex back. Staying away from your ex will have other benefits too. Your ex was expecting you to come running after them and when you do not they will wonder why.

Getting your ex back will require them to want to come back. You cannot drag them back. Being pushy only serves to push them farther away. When you do not chase after your ex they will realize they are the one losing their ex and they become the desperate one. By honoring their wishes to give them space you have in effect dumped the ex that dumped you. In no time at all they will be the ones wanting to get their ex back.
