Getting Fit, Finding Fun Ways To Exercise

We are all looking for ways to get fit and feel healthier and exercise is a great way to accomplish both. However, for most people exercise is often boring making it difficult to stay with any set exercise routine for any length of time. In order for exercise to have any lasting benefit, it has to be done on a regular basis and for most people that can be tougher than it looks. One way of keeping up with your exercises is to make them more fun. Here are a few ways you can add fun to your exercise routine.

Get into the pool

Whether you are swimming with your kids or doing water aerobics with friends playing in the water is great exercise and because it is fun you are more likely to stick with the routine than by doing the same type of exercise in a gym or at home in your living room. Swimming burns calories and strengthens muscles so it is the perfect choice for those who hate regimented exercise but love the water.

Join A Dance Group

There are a variety of dance activities that are great fun and great exercise. Whether you choose ballroom dancing, square dancing or want to learn the latest dance step, dancing will get you moving, burn calories and exercise various muscles. Even spending a half an hour at home with a couple of friends and doing those old disco moves can be a lot of fun and have a lot of healthy benefits.

Use Inexpensive and Fun Equipment

Studies have shown that many people buy expensive exercise equipment such as treadmills and rowing machines only to use them a few times and then leave them to gather dust. One reason is because these pieces of equipment are considered serious exercise equipment and lack the capacity for people to really have fun using them. You are better off to get yourself inexpensive exercise equipment such as an exercise ball, or a mini trampoline which will enable you to have fun and use them while varying the type of exercises you do.

Take a Hike Or a Bike

Instead of using a treadmill or that stationary bike why not try doing the real thing and take a hike or ride a bike around your local park. Getting out and seeing new things will add to the enjoyment and will make it seem more like an adventure than exercise. There are plenty of nature preserves with trails that you and your family can enjoy together making it all the more fun. Instead of spending a half an hour at the gym using that rowing machine why not rent a kayak and glide across a small lake or explore that river just outside of town. Even spending a morning exploring the downtown area and window shopping will get you moving and provide some exercise.

Whether it's a game of tag with your kids, playing chase with your dog, yoga in the park or taking a long walk along the beach with that special someone there are a number of fun and interesting activities you can partake in that will give you the exercise you need. The key is to get moving and stay moving and you can play your way to good health while getting great exercise and having fun.
