Gas Powered RC Cars - Big Fun in a Small Package
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

If you are interested in joining the exciting hobby of radio controlled cars, often referred to simply as an RC car, you will find that today there are racing clubs in most large cities, and that the cars themselves are extremely realistic, as well as fast. There are a few things you need to consider before getting gas powered RC cars.

If you are a beginner, you might want to start with a ready to run car kit. These are pre-built, and include everything you need to get started. If you purchase a car, it should include the motor, the radio and receiver, and the electric speed control that sends the power from the batteries to the motor. However, you can also purchase a build-it-yourself kit, if you have an interest in building the car yourself. If you go this route, either make sure the essential items are in the kit itself, or you will need to purchase them separately.

If you have a car with an electric motor, remember that you will need to allow the motor a break-in period so that you get the best performance possible from it, and to prevent wear and tear on the engine. This can be done in a number of different ways, but a simple way is to simply run the RC car with the wheels off the ground, and the radio control pulled a quarter of the way for approximately five minutes. This will help get the brushes fully seated, and the motor will be able to reach its full potential. If you change the brushes, you will need to break in the motor again.

As you use your gas powered RC cars, you will find that after you change the brushes about five times, it will be time to get a new motor for it. This of course will vary, depending on whether you are simply using the RC car for a fun hobby, or whether you are competitively racing the car. The electric motor of an RC car can also be tuned to achieve better performance or more speed.
