Expert Author Linda Meckler

We all want to eat healthy and we are told by all the professionals get back to the basics. But what are the basics and how do we get there?

If you live in a home and have a little bit of land start a garden. With the family's help it can become a wonderful learning, fun and family success story.

First of all you have to clear the land. Make it nice and flat with plenty of soil to plant the seeds of whatever you are going to plant.

Then you make small holes into the soil and plant your seeds. Watering is always essential to make your vegetables grow and grow and grow.

Imagine our very own vegetable garden In your own yard. From this little garden which started from nothing but seeds are now vegetables which can be made into delicious casseroles, salads or just wash the vegetable and eat them right out of the garden raw.

Your family will live healthier without all the added chemicals you get in the grocery store, you will be healthier and slimmer.

If you don't have a home with a place to put a small garden you can always put vegetables in pots and hang them from the porch roof, sit the pots on the porch or even have pots in the kitchen. It will still be your home grown vegetables.

Many schools now are starting gardens right on the school grounds to educate the children on getting back to basics of what I described above. In this garden, made by the children, tended by the children and eaten by the children how better to teach the children and their parents to get back to basics.

I can't think of a way to boost your self-esteem than for a family to cultivate a garden together. The family that gardens together stays together.
