Gang Culture in the UK - No World War?

Expert Author Sam De La Bertauche

The hoody, the yob, the thug, that gangster.

Common sights in urban areas all across UK. However gang culture isn't just found in urban areas. Surburbial estates, cul-de-sacs in villages, gang culture can happen anywhere where there are teens.

Obviously, there are many reasons for teens getting involved in gangs, causing trouble and breaking the law.

The area? Is gang culture related to the area, and the availability of jobs?

Perhaps not, seeing as (although there is a lack of jobs) there is still chances to enroll in colleges, and get jobs - at perhaps a lower wage - but still a job.

Maybe it is because they have nothing else to do?

There are many causes, that have been discussed on documentaries and the news.

I believe however, it to be more fundamentally, loyalty, and patriotism.

Gang culture promotes the urge to be part of something. The gang represents people fighting and doing things together, for their patch.

- People from Liverpool, hate the people from Manchester.
- The people of Liverpool and Manchester, hate the North East.
- People from the North West and the North East, hate the people from the South.
- The people from England, hate the people from Scotland.

But then where to?

People all across the world, always need to belong to something. They take pride in where they are from, and who they belong to. And even if it's not the best thing to do, or its not worth it; It's in their hearts, that they belong to something, they'll fight for it.

In times gone by, people of the UK would be proud to be British. They had common enemies. Whether it be France, Spain, religion, Germany, Russia. All posed a threat to National security. And many young men were enrolled into the army, to fight.

Nowadays? People can fight for their country, in Iraq. However what for? The war is very controversial, is it for oil? To help the Iraqies? To fight terror?

Instead, people are fighting for their gang. They belong to something, and this patriotism, is in everyone of us. Probably more in the young males, and they are the ones who typically do more about it.

I hope this has opened some discussion, and is an interesting read.
