Now, maybe more than ever before, successful fundraising is essential to even being able to participate in youth sports. Whether in a YMCA league, a sports association, or on a school sponsored team the cost to play is increasing and teams must turn to a some type of sports fundraiser to help cover those costs. Because so many teams are working towards the same goal of raising as much money as possible it makes a lot of sense to take a step back and spend some real time considering what kind of sports fundraising program is best for your team and what is the best way to actually do the fundraiser.
Many teams are starting to recognize that candy or cookie dough sales may not be the most effective way to raise money. A growing percentage of the population is concerned with the nutritional value of their food and candy and cookie dough just aren't on any diets that I have heard of.
Another reason that these traditional fundraisers may not be the best idea is that most teams do them. While that may sound funny at first it makes a lot of sense when you think about it. If you have 25 teams in your league and all of them are selling some kind of cookie dough at some point nearly all of your customers will have purchased cookie dough from someone and that means that if you don't get there first you might be out of luck. I can't even count the number of times I have heard parents complain that 18 different kids have tried to sell them a tub of frozen cookies.
Many teams are turning to new youth sports fundraising programs that may be a little different than the programs they have done in the past. That can mean a totally new type of fundraiser or just approaching youth sports fundraising in a new way.

One really popular new youth sports fundraising program that is proving to be very successful is an earth friendly fundraiser. Your team gets to sell eco friendly items and raise some serious money. These sports fundraisers are different enough and have fresh enough products that your customers are much more likely to buy but the basic idea is not so different that it is difficult to sell.
