Fuel Economy Recommendations For Trucking Jobs

Trucking Jobs are great jobs that have a high income earning potential. The incomes of truck drivers can easily be eroded by poor fuel economy. Follow the advice of this article to get better long haul fuel economy and you will keep more of your earnings in your pocket.

There are a couple of key areas that will help you save money. Limiting your speed, staying on route, RPM management, idle reduction, and equipment maintenance are areas where you can capitalize on cost savings.

Trucking Jobs Are More Profitable When You Follow These Steps:

  1. Limiting your speed:
Every 5 miles per hour you slow down will give you an extra ½ mile per gallon. Set your cruise around sixty instead of 65 and you'll see a savings.

  2. Stay on Route:

Staying on route assures you that you get paid for the miles you drive. Think twice before taking that detour for personal reasons and you'll drive fewer non-paid miles.

  3. RPM Management:

Maintaining good smooth acceleration and smooth deceleration will keep you under 1800 RPM. The fewer miles you drive at higher RPM's the better mileage you will get.

  4. Idle reductions:

Ignore that old wives tail that says starting and stopping the engine burns more fuel than idling and you will save some serious money. It is just a myth.

  5. Good Regular Maintenance:

A well-maintained tractor burns less fuel so keep up on your maintenance. Regular tire pressure checks and air filter checks will keep your equipment running efficiently. Poor tire pressure and air filters can create poor fuel economy quickly.
Following the advice above will help you hold on to more of the money your earning. After all trucking jobs are all about the money you earn for working hard. Another tool that many drivers have access to is the Qualcomm MPG and Idle Percent tracker. If you don't work for a fleet that uses the tool a trusty pen and pad can help you keep track of cost savings.
