Freemasons - Charitable Organisation Or Dark Order

The Freemasons is an organisation that has attracted vast amounts of suspicion and questions throughout its history, of this there can be no doubt. It is the subject of many books and films that in turn aim to either raise or quell the uncertainty and mistrust surrounding the organization.

Those involved with Freemasonry dismiss any doubts about the philanthropy of freemasonic principles as the paranoid ramblings of people who don't know what they are talking about, whilst those with the suspicions rebut that defence by claiming that the organization is so secretive that those within the lower orders are unaware of its real purpose.

To back u p this point of view there are a number of ex masons who claim to have been high ranking members who have spoken of dodgy deals and political influence within and between the lodges. On the other hand there are many masons willing to dismiss these claims as preposterous.

To the outsider, with only a little knowledge of Freemasonry, it would appear that it operates on two levels. On the one hand Freemasons are groups of men who come together simply for the brotherhood of being together, and in itself that brotherhood provides great reward and comfort, the payment for this comfort and reward is the commitment to charitable activities associated with being a Freemason.

On the other hand the charitable associations of Freemasonry happen at a very low level. As one investigates the higher levels of the organization we find that it involves itself with all sections of public life, exerting control and influence over political agendas, following a pre arranged plan for the betterment of only a very few people.

In summary it seems that much research is needed before anyone can speak with any kind of authority on the merits of Freemasonry. It would appear that those on the outside are drawing conclusions from innuendo and hearsay, and those within the lower orders know about as much of the true intentions of the organization as does the average factory worker about the decisions made by the board of directors.
