Freelancing - Should You Try It?
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Freelancing offers freedoms that just cannot be found in the traditional work force. Because of this, many people consider at one time or another to give it a try. Many times they stop themselves before getting started because they are afraid they will not be able to make it. However, there is a reason that millions of people make a full time living doing this type of work. If you are wondering whether you can make it as a freelancer, you have to ask yourself a few questions to see whether you have the needed characteristics. The first, and most obvious, question is whether you have the skills for the job you want. Because you do not have to answer to anyone, you might think that it would be interesting to try out a new field.

When you are considering freelancing, one of the first things you should do is create a portfolio. This way, it is easier to show potential employers that you have experience in the field. Many times they want to see previous work because there are so many people who freelance that they need a way to separate them. If you do not have a portfolio, or just do not have the drive to create one, employers might assume you are hiding something. Creating a portfolio shows that you are proud of your work and you want to show it off to people. Even having a small portfolio because you are new at the job is better than having nothing.

Another way to figure out whether you are right for freelancing is to determine your drive. You have to know that you will be able to work even when you do not feel like it. You will not have an employer giving you new assignments or telling you to speed up your work. If you do not think you will be able to do this on your own, being a freelancer might not be the job for you. You might also want to consider creating your own Website. This is a great way to generate more business because more people will be able to see your work. If this sounds like it would be too much work or a hassle, freelancing might not be for you.

To tell whether you would be right for freelancing, another thing you can do is see how good you are at networking. As a freelancer, you have to be able to put yourself out there and build a client list. If you think you have what it takes to go out there and find work for yourself, being a freelancer might be the perfect position for you.
