The advent of the speed camera marked a radical change in the way police enforce road safety. All over the world, speed cameras gradually became a familiar site on the nation's roads. As technology improved, they moved from film to digital processing, meaning there was no longer the chance that you might escape a speeding fine if the speed camera had ran out of film.

Local councils and local governments were initially very enthusiastic about speed cameras because they believed it would reduce road deaths due to speeding motorists, and increase road safety. They have come under increased pressure to remove them from their roads coming under attack for situating a speed camera purely as a way to generate revenue.

There is a place for speed cameras, but it should be positioned at accident hot spots where the death rate is especially high. They should also be placed near schools and areas where there is a high probability that children could run on to the road.

There is a loophole in the law that states notification of a speeding fine as a result of a speed camera must be received by the motorist within 14 days of the offense. Unfortunately for many motorists, they are still paying fines after receiving tickets weeks, even months after the offense occurred. The mere receipt of a speeding fine often frightens people into paying up.

It is very important to check the speed camera evidence in case the registration number was incorrectly read, or maybe even cloned. It is quite possible the motorist is innocent of the offense. Few motorists will bother to appeal, or even check the speed camera evidence, but they should.

Speed camera check is a free service that allows motorists in most countries to access official records to check if a speed camera has caught their vehicle speeding. Simply by entering the registration number of the car, the motorist can view photographic evidence of any speeding offense attributed to that registration.

Driving over the speed limit is against the law, and we do not condone that at all. However, placing speed cameras in some locations can actually cause more accidents by very late braking. There must be a common sense approach on placement of a speed camera. If you are guilty of speeding then you must pay the fine, but we believe if the local government fail to adhere to the rules when sending you the speeding notice, you should not have to pay.
