Free Traffic - How Do You Get It?

Expert Author John Henry Moore

After you have built your lead capture page and your blog you have to consider how people are going to find your sites to sign up to your offer.

When you think about it you need a lot of traffic to your lead capture page to really start to build your list. If you have a conversion rate of, let's say 20%, which is a fairly decent conversion rate, you will actually need 100 visitors to get 20 opt-ins, and you need to be aiming for this amount initially.

Now don't get me wrong, this is not going to happen overnight but you need to be aiming for this figure on a daily basis in the medium term. Once you achieve this you obviously need to move on to 200 visitors and then 300 etc.

Once you have tweaked your lead capture page to get a 20% conversion rate you must then concentrate on getting the volume of traffic to your site.

There are various methods of getting traffic but for the purposes of this article I will look at the various FREE methods available. The number of these is only limited by your imagination so please don't think that this is a complete list and of course you can utilise more than one method at the same time.

Blogging - this is one of the more common methods. Build a blog and post different things that are relative to your business. Place a lead capture box into the site so that you can capture details directly.

Social Media - Facebook/Twitter/my space etc. Use these social networks to interact with your contacts whilst building a relationship with new people you can occasionally direct them to your lead capture page or a new blog post or article. Be careful not to bombard people with nothing other than spam as they will just ignore what you put. It is much better to interact in a normal manner and just occasionally promote your site.

Article Marketing - Write articles that relate to your business. Make sure that the content is unique and interesting so that they will be read, do not advertise in the article itself but you can put a short statement at the end of the article directing people to your site. If the article is interesting or useful to the reader they may well want to find out more about the person who wrote it, YOU!

Search Engine Optimisation - This is learning how to optimise your site so that the search engines (Google, Bing, Yahoo etc.) rank you higher in there searches for particular keywords that you target.

Video Marketing - Try making video's and posting them on youtube. Make sure that your website link is in the description of the video and again if the video is interesting people will click on your link to find out more.

Make Comments On Other Blogs - Find other peoples blog posts on similar topics and make a positive comment on the post with your name as a link to your site.

Email Signature - Put your website on the bottom of all the emails that you send out. People may well take a look.

Forums and Discussion Boards - Make contributions to various forums and discussion boards that are readily available on the internet. Use your signature strip to direct more traffic to your website.

There are various other methods such as bookmarking, traffic exchanges and classified ads that you can also use but you have to remember it is unlikely that one of these methods on it's own is unlikely to generate enough traffic on it's own so it is vital that you master as many as you can and incorporate them into your overall business strategy.
