Free Potty Training Tips & Techniques For Puppies (Proven Methods)
Print This Article Ezine Publisher Send To Friends Add To Favorites Post A Comment Suggest Topic Report Author

Can you afford another day of your puppy relieving themselves on your furniture, floors, and carpet? Teaching your puppy where to go potty is easier than you think. Failing to train your puppy to eliminate themselves outdoors could cost you a lot of money. Not to mention, the horrible embarrassment when you have visitors.

1. Establish a designated area in the beginning. Your puppy will be attracted to enzymes in his/her urine and after a few times of going potty in that same spot, he/she will want to use that same spot to go potty again.

2. Choose a phrase you will use consistently when it is time to go potty. Something like "Go Potty," "Do your business," "Go pee-pee" will work just fine. Point at the spot (established in step 1) and repeat the phrase you created. This will take some time so remember to be patient!

3. Reward your puppy for successful outdoor elimination. Give him a treat and pet him/her while using a cheerful voice. Puppies respond best to positive rewarding as opposed to harsh punishment.

4. Remember, a puppy less than three months old can hold his/her bladder for up to three hours. This means you must have someone available that can bring the puppy our every two or so hours.

5. Be sure to take the puppy out after:

- Eating
- Napping
- Being alone
- Waking up in the morning
- Before bedtime

6. If the puppy has an accident, don't yell or hit him/her. Simply put him/her outside, point to the spot and repeat the phrase you created in step 2.
