Federal and State governments provide many grants for the youth of the U.S. Community trusts and foundations donate funds to the government to give grants to rehabilitate youth.

Youth employment opportunities are provided for young people to learn skills and have a positive work experience. Job corps and green corps in many states all over the country offer jobs in government organizations that give at risk youth a positive work experience. Jobs are provided by the federal government to youth to enhance federal lands and grants are given to provide jobs in parks and gardens so that at risk youth can learn to lead a responsible lifestyle in addition to learning a skill.

Empowerment programs are offered to address unhealthy behavior in youth. These programs are typically directed towards minority groups who are generally considered at risk. Community colleges and tribal colleges get grants from the federal and State government to organize and effectively operate these youth programs to help at risk youth lead a positive life and make healthy choices for their future. Grants are also given to organizations that have a documented history of working effectively with youth from minority groups.

Grants are given to institutions of higher education to offer scholarships to youth who have aged out of foster care or adopted from the public foster care system after they attain 16 years of age. These grants are for young people between the ages of 16 and 23. These grants ensure that children who are in foster care because they are orphaned or from unstable families get an education. This prevents these young people from becoming at risk youth and helps to give them a stable future.

Government grants are available for mental health programs for youth with serious emotional disturbances. Behavioral and mental problems in children under the age of 22 are addressed in these programs. Therapists, social workers and nurses work at these programs to help children change their attitudes and lead a more positive way of life. These programs are residential or outpatient community facilities. They are free and funded by government grants and the funds help to pay experienced and expert staff that is adept at correcting emotional problems of adolescents. The programs work with children and their families to help the child lead a healthy way of life.

Government grants are also available for providing homes or shelters for runaway or homeless children. Grants are given to organizations to help runaway children reunite with their families and strengthen family ties by counseling and family therapy. Grants are provided to organizations that offer programs that help to solve problems of runaway and homeless youth and give them a positive future. Homeless and runaway youth are susceptible to abuse and efforts are made by the government to protect these children from harm.
