Fireworks are the commonest form of boisterous celebrations on Independence Day. Every year on the fourth of July the skyline of America is lit with the fireworks. It’s the celebration of Independence, with light. Fireworks shows are organized in different states all over USA. Thousands throng the fireworks arena with friends and families while others enjoy the shows on the television sets from the comfort of their homes.
The fireworks mostly use the American colors – red, blue and white. However other vibrant colors are also used. Most people gather at popular view points for the fireworks shows which generally kick off between 9:00 – 9:30 pm in the evening. Fireworks provide the final touch to the grand celebrations of Independence Day. It’s a spectacular sight to watch invoking feelings of joy, pride and patriotism.
Some of the grand fireworks are organized in Boston, Washington DC and Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks in New York.
Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks –
Macy’s Fourth of July fireworks organized in New York are considered to be the greatest fireworks show in the world. It is best viewed from the river with the Empire State Building in the backdrop. This fireworks show designed by Sousa Fireworks has upheld the joy of American Independence for over 30 years. The show is comprised of more than 30,000 shells with more than 1000 shells bursting per minute. The show uses 55 times more fireworks than any average fireworks show in the US. What’s even more delightful is that the shells are fired to the beat of music. This synchronization is done by a computer which requires more than 10 miles of wiring. 63,000 feet of pipe made of steel and fiberglass is required to launch each of the 30,000 shells from its own mortar. Four barges are stationed between the 23rd and 42nd Streets in the East River from where the shells are fired. The show is telecast nationally on NBC.
Boston Fireworks –
The fireworks spectacular in Boston is held on the esplanade along the River Charles which includes the Edward A. Hatch Memorial Shell and Oval. Pyro Spectaculars and Eric Tucker are the masterminds behind the display. The Boston celebrations this year will kick off on 3rd July with a concert from 8:30 pm to 10:00 pm. On Fourth of July there will be a concert from 8:30 pm to 10:30 pm followed by the fireworks show from 10:30 pm. Oval opens at 4:00 pm on 3rd at 9:00 pm on the 4th of July and is usually filled up by 7pm on 3rd and mid-morning on July 4th. Entry to the Oval for the show is free and on first come first serve basis. Its thus advisable that willing spectators reach there early to ensure their seat. This year the show will be broadcast locally at 8:00 pm on WBZ TV and nationally at 10:00 pm on CBS network.
Fourth of July fireworks in Washington DC –
The Capital city of the United States also puts on a spectacular show on the occasion of Independence Day. Independence Day celebrations at Washington DC are organized in the National Mall. It includes parades, cultural shows, concerts and ultimately culminates with the fireworks show which begins usually around 9:30 pm. The fireworks are launched from the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and light up the sky over the Washington Monument. The best places to view the National Mall fireworks are from U. S. Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, FDR Memorial, East Potomac Park, anywhere along the National Mall between 14th Street and the Capitol and aboard a cruise along the Potomac River. The fireworks can also be viewed from Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia near the Rosslyn Metro station and areas along the Virginia side of the Potomac River.
