How often do you hear yourself saying "I can't afford that", "I don't suit that colour", "I couldn't do that. "I'm not good at that"? Have you ever thought about how your unconscious mind hears and receives these messages you say to yourself? No? Well spend a moment now to consider.
Control Your Inner Voice
You create your entire world by the things you choose to think about and how you choose to think about them. Research shows that wealthy, happy, successful people fill their minds with thoughts, words, pictures and images of wealth, success, productivity, creativity, joy and solutions most of the time.
These thoughts trigger the reticular activating system (RAS), the cortex or part of your brain that makes you more alert and sensitive to things that you have decided are important to you.
Activate Your RAS
Be the driver of your RAS - take control. Notice for example, if you decide to buy a car, you will start to see news and information about that car everywhere. Billboards, advertisements in magazines and vehicles on the road will now jump out at you.
These have always been there, but now you have sensitized your brain to pick them up and draw them to your attention. This is the power of your RAS - so get behind the wheel and use it wisely.
Avoid Negative Thinking
What then do poor, lonely, unhappy people think about most of the time? Unfortunately they fill their minds with thoughts of scarcity, lack, poverty, being along, being talked about, things that aren't going well and being unable to afford things. They are always thinking and talking about how little money they have, how unfortunate they are, how much things cost and how they wish people would treat them better.
These people believe "Life happens to me." What they think about most of the time is what their RAS will be looking for and tuned into. Voila! That's what they get. They are sitting in the passenger seat going nowhere.
Think Like Successful People
Think Successful, wealthy, happy people from an early age think about how much they have, what makes them happy, what they want and all the different things they can do to be, do and have all they desire. They believe "I create my life."
These beliefs are not right, wrong, true or false, they're just past opinions which can be changed on your command. Only YOU can CHOOSE to think in ways that will support you instead of ways that don't.
If you want to create wealth, happiness and success it is imperative that you believe that you are at the steering wheel of your life; that you create every moment of your life.
Try it out - here's some homework I promise will change your life. For the next seven days, I challenge you not to complain at all. Not just out loud, but in your head too. I invite you to email me with the results of this experiment. I guarantee you'll be astonished as to how amazing your life will become when you stop focusing on all that stuff.
Instead, make a decision today that for the next seven days you will think and talk only about the success that you desire.
So instead of saying, "I can't afford it," ask yourself the question, "How can I afford it?" When you think of something that you want to do but don't know how to do yet ask yourself, "How?" "How can I do it? What can I do to achieve it? What are my options? Where can I start?"
This reminds me of a story... Strolling along the edge of the sea, a man catches sight of a young woman who appears to be engaged in a ritual dance. She stoops down, then straightens to her full height, casting her arm out in an arc. Drawing closer, he sees that the beach around her is littered with starfish, and she is throwing them one by one into the sea.
He lightly mocks her: "There are stranded starfish as far as the eye can see, for miles up the beach. What difference can saving a few of them possibly make?"
Smiling she bends down and once more tosses a starfish out over the water, saying serenely, "It certainly makes a difference to this one."
