Five Tips to Self Dental Advertising

When you started your practice, you probably envisioned a low advertising budget and tons of patients that gravitated to you based on word of mouth referrals. While it's certain that you get many of your existing patients that way, the harsh reality is that in this soured economy, you need to pamper your existing client base and pump up the new business with dental advertising via the Internet. So, how do you do this? Well there are five basics to remember when seeking dental advertising success online.

The first step, most obviously is to set up a personalized website. No, it doesn't need to be fancy, but it should include the most basic information such as your office hours, phone numbers, pictures of your staff and directions to your location.

Number two suggestion is to improve your rankings on the search engines like Google and Yahoo. To achieve consistent higher ranking search engine placement, include articles on your site with tips to better hygiene or reasons why cosmetic dentistry can help their appearance. Rotate your articles so that the same information is not always included. Give the reader a reason to come back.

The third secret to dental advertising success is also one of the easiest and  least expensive.  Establish profiles on social networking sites. Set up a profile on sites like Twitter, Facebook and MySpace. Encourage your employees and current customers to click the like buttons as this will appear on their pages too in front of all their local friends who could be using you too. Include pictures on your profile as well as office hours and other benefits of your practice. Include a link to your website and email address.

Number four is to create a newsletter and send it out once a month to your existing email list. Make sure you're capturing emails when your new clients fill out their new patient paperwork. Include some of the articles and tips that you use on your website and send the newsletter via email and snail mail to the customers who don't list email addresses.

A fifth tip to improve your dental advertising plan is to sponsor charitable events in your area. Then, use your website and email newsletters to promote the event it's self. The event gives you good copy for your newsletters and is a great public relations move on your part.

By utilizing the above ideas, you build your practice from a mom and pop practice to a 21st century competing business. And never forget,  your practice is a business like any other. No one can promote it quite like you can as you know it inside and out.
