Five Great Ideas for Scary Face Painting

Halloween is that time of the year where people gear up to go trick-or-treating, some even prepare themselves to visit their deceased family members, and as for others, well, it's just another excuse to party. But whatever your reason for enjoying this season one truth remains the same, Halloween is still the legitimate time to go out and frighten the living daylights out of people. But how will you do this? In this day and age, it will take more than just a sheath of cloth to scare others.

If you want genuinely scary-looking Halloween costumes, here are five great ideas for you.

The Witch. There are different styles that you can employ when it comes to witch face painting. You can go either for the good witch or the bad witch look. But since it is Halloween and scaring people is the objective, the bad witch look might be more appropriate. To create this look, sponge the entire face in green. It is important to sponge smoothly and evenly. The lips can be painted with black or pale blue. Warts and ugly moles can then be added on different parts of the face. Finish it off with frown lines on the forehead and wrinkles around the lips.

The Undead or Zombie. Hollywood has made the zombie a popular Halloween character to portray. For this look, paint the entire face in grayish white. Paint on bluish black lines under the eyes, on the cheeks and on the forehead. The teeth can be dyed in black. Dark red wounds can be added on the cheeks or forehead. You can top off the look by wearing white contact lens.

The Skeleton. Cover the head with a latex cap to give it a smoother appearance. Paint the face and latex cap in white. Draw two circles around both eyes and color it in with black to give a hallow appearance. On the nose, draw a triangle and color it in. Then paint several lines parallel to each other on the lips to make it look like a skeletons teeth. Finish it off by adding a couple of cracks around the face.

The Vampire. Vampires were not always depicted as hot and sexy anti-human biting hunks that could walk in sunlight like Edward Cullen of the Twilight series. The original vampires were actually scary. To create this look, sponge the entire face with white. Then paint shadows under the eyes and the lips blood-red. Add fake fangs and you are all set to go in search for your first victim.

The Mummy. Mummies are also an all-time favorite Halloween pick. To produce a mummy-like appearance, cover the head with white latex cap. Make white strips on the face using a medium-sized brush. Then trace the edges with black. Color the surrounding area of the eyes with black. Then finish it off with grayish yellow accents on the edges to give the bandages an aged appearance.
