When college students were asked to carefully assess their behavior, and be completely introspectively honest with themselves and complete a survey as part of a research project, everyone thought it was going to be pretty accurate. Guess what? It was. And, they did better in assessing themselves than their PhD psychologist team. This experiment has be created, and re-created with similar results all over the country. And yet, a new spin has been put on this.
A new Artificial Intelligent program hooked up with an fMRI brain scanning device has been shown to better predict behavior in an individual than the psychologists, or the individual. A press release on June 22, 2010 confirmed this from the University of California at Los Angeles UCLA, which is known for its work in neuroscience; "Neuroscientists can predict your behavior better than you can - Surprising UCLA brain scanning study has implications for advertising, public health campaigns."
Indeed, as the press release indicates it does have massive applications for Branding, Marketing, Advertising, Political Campaigns, as well as Massive Social Engineering to get people to stop abusing spouses, alcohol, drugs, and to get them to eat right, stop smoking, and exercise more. However, with this knowledge we can also save the California School Budgets by firing all the psychologists in the schools, and dismiss these costs. We can then put this money back into the classrooms.
If a computer better predicts human behavior we certainly don't need any behavioral scientists or psychologists. Some even say that psychology is not a science at all, I totally agree actually, and even cringe when someone tells me they have a doctorate in psychology, calling it a social science, as how can you put the word science in that. Now if someone was a neuroscientist creating AI and neural networks that's one thing; but don't kid yourself, psychologists are not scientists, and what they are studying is even questionable.
The reality is that most psychologists have dysfunctional families, and entered their field to help them understand themselves. It's one of the only degree where folks can get a doctorate, in some colleges without a dissertation - that's crazy. It's interesting that these folks with all their arrogance cannot compete against the individuals they are studying to determine behavior, or a computer. Some say AI will never equal human intelligence, well if that's true this new research proves that psychologist lack human intelligence; Ouch!
