One Sunday at church I was walking by the library when I noticed that the library had a little sign that said "Free help yourself". This sign was next to large pile of books, magazines, LDS art, and other church literature. I decided to look further as I am a collector of LDS art and other church materials. I got a large box and began to fill the box full of the things found there. I asked them why they were giving everything away and the librarian in charge said they were going to clean out their old inventory.
When I got home to look at what I found I noticed a lot of great pictures. The collection that I found included a painting of Joseph Smith's family and painting of Joseph Smith's brother Samuel Smith walking with a Book of Mormon in hand. What really was interesting is that they even had a picture of George Washington's home.
When people think of LDS meetinghouse libraries, they tend to think of pictures of the Savior, pictures of past and current prophets, pictures of temples, and paintings or photos of church members past and present. But the library is a veritable treasure trove of pictures of all sorts, old and new. These pictures and other library resources are not only for the purpose of teaching Sunday school, but also can be checked out for home use as well. Family home evenings can be greatly enriched by utilizing these resources.
Meetinghouse libraries have ways of keeping track of their inventories, so it is not difficult to find out what pictures are there and check them out.
