Filmmaking College - What They Teach You and More

So you want to go to film college. What if I told you that you dont need to go? What if I told you I have gone and learned the techniques and secrets, even picked up a few during my filming days and could pass the information on to you? You probably think I'm crazy, and maybe I am but its true. I have learned alot during my days of school and on set, and Im here today to give you a few tips that you can use right now. If you find the information useful, there is a website at the bottom that you can go for even more information.

Obviously you need an idea, or a list of ideas before you even start doing anything. You will need to know the plot or problems, a great storyline, the actors (characters), the props, and at least some of the locations you will be using. Ok now grab yourself a notebook, write down EVERYTHING and than organize all of it. After you have done that organize it again and add all of the details down to the smallest one. Keep at it until its the way you want it.

You like writing? A script involves alot of it, so keep your pencils sharpened. Please note that a script is not just some sheet of paper that shows what the actors are saying. It involves everything that is going on in your scenes like location, what moods the actors are in, and whats going to happen. It can be a long process and it will change as you film, but it can be fun. Just dont get too upset and you will be fine.

Now the fun part, money. I dont like to assume, but you probably dont have much of that and thats ok. Every big director and film maker started out with no money, unless they had rich parents but thats another article. Save as much money as you can, and see if you can borrow any from friends, especially the ones that are participating in the film. The website I mentioned will show you how to make a film with virtually no money.

So you got some friends to help you out, but you need more cast and crew. A great place to start is at colleges. Look at the drama clubs and get some students to help. Most will help for free to get some acting under their belt and add to their portfolio. You might even make one of them a big hollywood star. You can also try placing advertisements and finding help that way.

Chances are you or a friend may have a camera already. You might even have some costumes and props from things laying around the house. You will probably need to purchase some however. The best way to find this is online and flea markets. Check your area for flea markets and you will be surprised at what you can find for little cash. Looking at auctions and such online can also prove to be beneficial.
