In recent studies, researchers have identified three stirring and powerful weapons to combat Alzheimer's disease. Many people may find it hard to believe but these weapons include coffee, cocoa, and red wine. Each of these so-called weapons has it's own way of fighting Alzheimer's as well as providing other benefits to it's patrons.
Today, coffee is now considered as the great American drink although prior to this recognition, it has been considered a medicine rather than just a drink. To the surprise of most people, caffeine, the most prominent ingredient in coffee that is often misrepresented, helps in combating Alzheimer's disease.
A research that involved the feeding of caffeine equivalent to 5 cups of coffee daily to mice, which represented the characteristics of Alzheimer's, was conducted. Researchers have found improvements in the memory of the mice after feeding them with caffeine for a few days. They have also found out that the damaged axons and brain cell dendrites have regenerated. Thus, these outcomes have led researchers to believe that moderate daily consumption of coffee can reduce or delay the damaging effects of Alzheimer's disease.
Cocoa, on the other hand, is known as the substantial ingredient in chocolates. Cocoa is a powerful antioxidant that fights the oxidative stress, which is identifiable to causing Alzheimer's disease. More so, cocoa improves cardiovascular health and reduces the effects of Alzheimer's.
Red wines, red grapes, peanuts, and grape skins all contain the latest among diet counselors, which is Resveratrol. Resveratrol is a compound that protects brain cells from damage or death. Although researchers have not yet come up with the system of how it works, Resveratrol has been suggested to prevent or delay the effects of Alzheimer's disease.
Studies such as the Epidemiology of Vascular Aging Study and the Framingham Heart Study have presented convincing results about Resveratrol specifically in red wines or alcohol. The studies both involved participants of more than a thousand people. Researchers found superior performance among women who consumed alcohol as compared to those who did not drink at all. Although Resveratrol can also be found in other sources apart from red wine and food supplements, the findings over its health benefits should not be used as excuses for overindulging. Resveratrol pills are now available in most drug stores and like red wine; they should be taken in moderation.
Ultimately, coffee, cocoa, and red wines containing Resveratrol are all inexpensive and accessible; scientifically proven to be efficient in preventing or fighting numerous diseases such as Alzheimer's; and ordinary products that individuals can enjoy.
