Whenever I ask this question, must people look at me as though I am a little nuts and then go of course!
Yes on a conscious level most people understand the difference between reality and fiction, but your subconscious mind doesn't.
You may be aware of the sporting technique where the athletes practice a new move or technique, by visualising it over and over in their minds, before doing it for 'real'. This improves there performance when they actually start trying the move.
The subconscious takes everything 'literally' it does not have the ability to question what it 'sees', which is a good thing! With the amount of information it processes, if it stopped to think about it we would take a really long time to get anything done!
So when you imagine yourself doing something your subconscious mind will create the relevant chemical changes within your body as though you were doing it for real, the only difference is you conscious mind understands that this is a 'practice' run and therefore doesn't make you act out the actually procedure (the conscious control voluntary muscle functions).
Try it for yourself, imagine your favourite meal, actually visualise it sitting in front of you now, you can 'smell' the wonderful aroma, now 'see' yourself taking a bite, and 'taste' it as it crosses your tongue - is your mouth watering yet?
This is an amazingly powerful tool when used consciously, but if people are imagining the worst case scenario all the time, their bodies are creating the relevant chemical reactions that they would use to get themselves out of the situation. Because they are not actually being used they then remain for a while stored within your body, until they can be used!
This results in an abundance of 'negative' chemicals within the body which can then throw the body out of balance.
When used consciously it has great benefits. If you are in a stressful situation which is causing feelings that are not beneficial then you can take a minute of two to imagine yourself in a calm place and your body will produce the relevant calming chemicals, helping you to remain calm. Even just a few second of imagine yourself in a peaceful environment will help!
This is also why, when working with the Law of Attraction, is it useful to imagine yourself in the actually situation you would like to manifest, because even if you consciously are struggling to believe it, subconsciously (provided you have no limiting beliefs that contradict your manifestation) you will believe and produce the relevant chemicals. If done often enough this will create the exact feeling of your manifestation and will enable you to start believing it on a conscious level.
Our minds are an amazing powerhouse which we seriously undervalue. They are people on drugs test on the placebo pill that believe they are being given a wonder drug that will heal/cure them and they heal/cure themselves!
So just take a little time to become conscious about what you are thinking about, if its 'doom and gloom' then maybe it would be worth spending a little time thinking positively and see what happens!
