This town of approximately 50, 000 people is located on the North Sea coast of North Yorkshire, England. It is also the largest known holiday resort town on the coast of North Yorkshire. The railway accesses this town easily from Manchester, Leeds, York, and even Liverpool. The ruins of Scarborough Castle can be seen on the rocky promontory, which is the most striking feature of the geography of Scarborough.
The center of town is very commercial and supports shopping, night life, main services, and transport hubs. Originally a medieval settlement, the South Bay, forms the Old Town district. This part of town is where tourism mainly takes place. There is a beautiful sandy beach, arcades, cafes, theaters, amusements, and other entertainment facilities. While the South Bay is where all the action is, the North Bay is geared towards a more low-key crowd.
North Bay is the location of Peasholm Park, with its Japanese-themed construction. There is a mock battle that occurs, called the Battle of the River Plate, on the lake using model boats.
The North Bay Railway is actually a miniature railway that attaches the park to the Sea Life Centre, located at Scalby Mills. North and South Bay are also linked, via a Victorian promenade, and both have very popular beaches.
The allure of Scarborough draws people from all over the world. The National Student Drama Festival takes place on a yearly basis at the Stephen Joseph Theatre. There are hundreds of artists living in Scarborough and it is somewhat of an arts-based town. There is a jazz festival in September every year and a 'Beached Festival' in the summer. This is more of a pop and rock festival. Another annual festival, that takes place in July, is Seafest. This festival draws artists from other nations as well as locals. There are so many scheduled events in Scarborough to enjoy!
