The office is a place to get the job done! Sometimes, working from home, with the stresses and strains of work and family life, it is very difficult to find peace and harmony within a typical working day.
Feng shui works on balancing the men, women and their surroundings with peace, harmony and positive energy.
The desk is the most important element of all in your office; this is where you need your positive energy so that the sole purpose of the room can be fulfilled.
The desk should always face the door and be diagonally in line with the office door. This will provide you will a complete view of your whole working space and this in turn will enhance the energy that gives you control over your workplace and tasks. You will feel empowered and confident. With the full view of the doorway from your desk, you will not be surprised at work. Any unexpected interruptions bring on a negative aspect of energy and this can create an unbalanced chi. An unbalanced chi will create a negative energy and this brings with it distraction, anxiety, stress and ineffectiveness.
If the office space is small and has a lot of clutter, then you need to remove all unnecessary and unimportant items and open the room up and allow the desk area as much space as possible. With a small office, try to place the desk as far away from the door as possible. A desk that is very close to the door portrays a poor self image and will distract you from your work and make you feel like you want to escape.
If, however, there is no choice and the desk has to be put close to the door, then try to block the line of vision, for instance by putting a mirror onto your desk between you and the door. You can also choose a crystal paperweight to change the energy and alter your perspective. Place a living object, like a goldfish in a bowl or a living green plant between you and the door. The biggest chi magnets are plants by doorways. The desk should not face the wall as this will affect the flow of chi and your work will suffer. When you are in the office make sure that you do not work with your back to a window, either an internal window or one that faces out. This can cause uncertainty and subtle anxiety.
Feng shui experts love natural light, especially window light that will provide an outlook onto some pleasant scenery. If you have windows in the office, you can further enhance the light and the flow of positive energy within your work space, by adding mirrors that reflect the views. Interior lights and lamps also enhance the flow of chi or energy within the work place. However, fluorescent lighting does not and this can be distracting. It may also bring about negative energy and affect the work that you are doing and therefore make you less effective and in so doing, reduce your career and wealth advancement. This will prevent you from moving forward and accomplishing what you want.
Office feng shui is very dependent on the person who is working there and on the nature of the business that is being done in the home office.
