Feed Your Family Fish For Healthy Hearts

Many people struggle translating the heaps of dietary advice they receive from their doctors and the mainstream media into reality. Everyone knows that it is better for you to eat fresh fish and steamed vegetables, for example, than a cheeseburger and a plate of greasy french fries. But if you are used to cooking more fattening dishes, converting this knowledge into a reality can be difficult. What you are in need of is a few Heart Healthy recipes to kickstart your new way of life.

Baked White Fish with Vegetables and Rice

Wild Alaskan fish is a major part of many Heart Healthy recipes. Simply go to your local grocery store and get a few cuts of fresh fish - preferably from a seafood counter. Bring them home, bathe them in the juice of a lemon, lightly brush with butter or oil, and gently season the filets with light seasoning like some white pepper, a bit of salt, or thyme. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit with the glass baking dish inside. Chop up some veggies that you would like to go with it - like broccoli, bell peppers, whole garlic cloves, or sliced carrots and brush lightly in some oil. When the oven is preheated, remove the dish, place the fish inside, and put the veggies overtop. Leave in the oven for 20-25 minutes, depending on how thick the filets are. Cook some rice on the stovetop while you wait for your fish to bake, and you have yourself one of the many Heart Healthy recipes!

Garlic Shrimp Pasta

Many seafood pastas come with heavy creams, which hardly let them qualify as Heart Healthy recipes. But this incarnation is great for everyone. Simply buy some precooked shrimp from your local grocery store and some whole wheat pasta. Sautee diced garlic in some olive oil - which contains healthy omega-3 fatty acids - and throw the shrimp in for a minute or two, just enough to brown it, then add a cup of white wine. Let the liquid reduce a bit. Toss over a lighter type of pasta, such as angel hair, add a little bit of olive oil to enhance the flavor.

These two dishes are just the tip of the iceberg. Keep experimenting and you will soon be churning out Heart Healthy recipes at a record rate!
